The Challenge

Cement is not usually something you add to a basket. It is bought through merchants or quoted by phone, by the pallet, with a lead time attached. Reader manufacture it and wanted to sell it directly instead.

That meant turning a quote-led product into one with a published price and a checkout, and doing it for three quite different buyers at once: builders, contractors, and people ordering a pallet for a single job at home.

What We Delivered

Shopify Store

A store built on Shopify at shop.reader.co.uk, sitting alongside the main Reader site rather than replacing it.

Product Structure

The range organised into fast setting, general purpose and mortars, so a buyer who knows the job can find the right product without reading a datasheet.

Pallet Delivery

Delivery built around how the product actually ships - by the pallet, direct from the factory, rather than a parcel model that was never going to fit.

Post-Launch Changes

A further round of changes after launch once real orders had been through the store and the gaps were visible.

The Result

Reader can now sell cement online at a published price, with pallet delivery straight from the factory. The quote-and-wait step is gone for customers who do not need it, and the store handles builders, contractors and one-off DIY orders through the same checkout.

The build completed cleanly and the store has run since without needing us behind it, which for a one-off e-commerce project is the outcome worth having.

Selling something that does not fit a normal basket?

We build e-commerce for products with awkward delivery, trade pricing, or a buying process that was never designed for a checkout.
